- If it is yellow--let it mellow! Avoid flushing the toilet when possible.
- Use a low-flow shower head. Low flow doesn't mean low pressure; a low-flow shower head can actually help increase your shower's pressure.
- Collect rainwater. It isn't raining often, but a 1-inch rainfall on a 1000 square foot roof is about 600 gallons of water! Using rainwater to keep your landscape green is a visual statement about water conservation. You can use rainwater to flush your toilet, too.
- Save greywater. Although some city and county ordinances prohibit the use of greywater (leftover water from showering, washing clothes, etc.) outdoors for health and enforcement reasons, you can still use it to water your houseplants and pour it into your toilet tank to flush your toilet.
- Check your toilet tank and faucets for leaks. Replacing a washer here and there can stop drips and save dollars, not to mention water.
- Encourage your friends and family members to conserve water.
