The Athens Dust Bowl Ga. Drought Awareness and Benefit Concert on November 27, 2007 was a huge success. Thanks to the many musicians, sponsors, supporters, planners, and friends who made this event possible, we were able to raise money for local water conservation groups--while enjoying some of the best live music out there.
If you live outside Athens and want to use the Dust Bowl Concert idea for your area as a way of raising awareness and funds for water conservation, please do--just let us know (use the contact page to the left) so we can post a link here.
The drought continues, the population grows, and new developments still don't take future water needs into consideration. We all need to develop new habits for living--reducing personal water use and energy consumption (electric power generation uses water!). It doesn't have to be painful; it just has to be different. Small changes can make a difference, and lead the way to bigger changes in the ways that we plan for the future.
Keep saving water and playing music!

In 1940, Woody Guthrie recorded Dust Bowl Ballads, an album about the struggles of common people during the great dust bowl. The album echoes themes of environmental degradation, economic hardship, and social activism. In 2007, northeast Georgia is in the grip of a drought with serious environmental and social implications. On Tuesday, November 27, we will be holding a special concert in Athens to raise awareness of water conservation issues. |
